A graduate of John Jay College of Criminal Justice with a focus in law and a minor in English, Alvir's intellectual foundation is as disciplined as his approach to the game. He has worked as a Child Protective Specialist with the Administration for Children's Services, investigating child abuse and neglect, and he has served New York City's youth as a substitute teacher and as a worker with special needs children. His understanding of human struggle extends well beyond the ring.
He has been in the ring, put in the rounds, and paid his dues the hard way. He trained to compete, worked under accomplished coaches, and obsessively absorbed everything he could — then made a deliberate choice to dedicate himself fully to the craft of coaching. Alvir is an AIBA 1 Star Coach, one of the first USA Boxing Gold Coaches in the country, and a NYSAC-licensed professional manager and second, Alvir was honored with the 2016 George Washington Coach of the Year award at the 90th New York Daily News Golden Gloves. He has served on New York Metro's coaching staff for the 2016 Olympic Trials and at international box-offs. In 2011 he founded Eastern Queens Boxing Club, and has since expanded his footprint to include EQBC Arena Boxing and EQBC South, a complete boxing gym built inside New York City public school MS 356. He has developed multiple national champions and led fighters to national rankings from the ground up. His fighters' records and the people they've become stand as his testament.
